Does Google PR Still Matter?

To the general visitor, yes. To the webmaster thinking that a pr of 10 is best, no. IMO PR means less these days for webmasters than it ever has before. I have not been able to pin-point the exact change yet, but I do know that something is very different.

It could be the fact that there are more webpages on the web now than ever before, and google is now dividing the Page Rank between more web pages than it ever has. So the final PR number of 0-10 are now spread so thin that a PR of 5 a few years ago could mean the same thing as a PR of a 2 or 3 today.

I could be wrong, but the way I see it is, Google only has so much PR to give out. And they ran out a long time ago. So now, it is just being divided up between the most popular sites. Is that too far out or do you agree?

Regardless, Page Rank means a different thing these days. Try not to focus on a higher PR and instead just focus on useful content to the real human that visits your site instead of Google’s spider. People want good information on the web that answeres their questions. They don’t care about what your page is ranked as.
